“I’ve been very happy with setting up SpaceFn in the OS instead of the keyboard firmware. It has the benefit of working the same with all keyboards, including built-in laptop keyboards.
Karabiner-Element works well on Mac. For Linux there are two options: one hooked into evdev and one patched X input driver.
