I ordered back in April, and the shipping estimate at the time was “later this year.” Since approximately half of that time has now passed, can we get a shipping/progress update on these units?

These keyboards should be going out later this year: around year end or early next year. We are at the mercy of the factories as always for such low volume production. You can see the frequent updates over on the Deskthority forum thread if you’d like, including a video on the die casting of the cases which is now in progress.

If I am not wrong, the cable is attached to the controller inside the case, and the case will have to be opened up in order to detach? Thank you

Yes, this is correct for all classic style cases. If it bothers you, you can use a patch cable or do a flush mount mod as shown in the manual.
