Hello!
I’m considering getting a FSSK Model F (ISO), and I’m looking at what options there are to customize the layout to my needs.
My preferred layout has Control in place of Caps lock, Fn where Control normally was, no Caps Lock key at all. On the right side of the keyboard I also have a bit customized layout, but that is not too important.
Example picture: https://imgur.com/QtsuJko (Full KLE link).
I see that the Extras keyset probably has the keys I need for the left side:
- 1.75U Control
- 1.25U Win
- 1.25U Fn
- 1.25U Alt
Questions:
- Does the PCB actually support laying down the the 1.25U keys like this, or would I need to use different size keys?
- Would I need to buy the entire Extras set ($84), or can these be bought individually (Individual keys option $3)
Great; glad you are joining the project!
With the Model F you can place any key on any row, as long as the key will physically fit the spot. The bottom row cannot change the spacing however. The spacing is 1.5, 1, 1.5, spacebar, 1.25 (if the shorter spacebar is purchased and the $39 layout modification service checkmark is selected), 1.5,1,1.5. With the standard longer spacebar, the spacing is 1.5, 1, 1.5, spacebar, 1.5, 1, 1.5.
You can buy individually but 1.75 keys are $7 each, as noted on that page.

So in summary, I assume the 1.25U keys don’t line up in a way that I could use them.
Which means, for my needs, this will probably work, since they match the current key sizes:
[1.75U Control]
[1.5U Fn] + [1U Super] + [1.5 Alt] = 4.0
And this will probably not work, if the keys don’t line up properly:
[1.75U Control]
[1.25 Fn] + [1.25 Win] + [1.5 Alt] = 4.0
