can i get a model f with the “original” layout (with the bigger control key in the 3rd row)

if you look at an old model f (xt) , you’ll see that the ctrl key is a bigger key in the 3rd row(like the HHKBs). is it possible to get an new model f like that?

Yes, you can have that option with the HHKB style split right shift or the regular right shift.

If you want it with the HHKB style, customize the keyboard to HHKB Style Split Right Shift. Either backspace option will work (split or 2U). No extra charge for the keys you want as they are included.

If you want the ANSI option, these keys would not be included, so please order the HHKB add on set which will allow you to have the swapped Ctrl and Caps Lock keys.

The split right shift and regular right shift options are not interchangeable as the placement of the barrels, the inner foam, and the PCB are different.
