Is the xwhatsit controller going to be shipped with the new F104 boards?
Part of the reason I’m asking is I’m interested in the consistency of the matrix scanning frequency and USB polling rate, because I have seen certain MCUs running QMK fare better than others. In addition the RP2040 based controller looks like an interesting project, but I’m guessing that’s not exactly shipping yet.

Yes, it will be the same xwhatsit controller as on the other 4,000 new Model F keyboards that have shipped in recent years.
The controllers both run QMK well and have all of the typical features needed for capacitive buckling spring boards, such as NKRO support, so there would not be any perceivable real-world difference during typing, though the RP2040 controller does have some technological advantages described on the github page, most notably 2 additional columns, the use of a more widely available chip, and more memory so you can have more than 4 layers. The RP2040 is expected to be the default for the new F122 which requires the additional columns.

The xwhatsit controller uses the ATMEGA chip; they are one and the same controller.
