I’m really interested in these repro IBM keyboards, but would like to utilise more generic MX compatible Mechanical Switches (3/5pin) and have yet to come across to a proper repro that has all the original features, the closest I found was an aluminium TKL inspired on thr model M keyboard, but it was still based upon and not an actual reproduction.
As well as the proper (SA Profile) keycaps in the right colors are also extremely hard to find a proper set that’s compatible with MX switches.
I’ve looked through the products and also the Q&A and read the keycaps weren’t compatible, yet I was wondering if there ever will be a purchaseble option to get a barebone kit with modern mechanical keyboard compatibility, likewise with compatible keycap sets and the necessary modifiers.
Would this ever be something that could be produced/bought in the future, or is this completely out of the question?
I absolutely love that this work is being done to keep these amazing keyboards alive, and I would absolutely love to see this also extend to the more generic mechanical keyboard market.

The beam spring keyboard reproductions will work with MX type key sets.
If you want to use a keyboard that looks like the Model M but has MX switches, sorry that is not available. The whole point of the project is to reproduce the keyboards that IBM engineered to maximize comfort and productivity, through the Model F and beam spring keyboards.
Model F and beam spring keyboards are greatly valued and praised even decades after production ended for a reason. I strongly recommend considering a brand new Model F or beam spring keyboard instead of looking for another generic MX or other self-contained switch keyboard.
