Hi forum,
I am interested to purchase some parts from the site to mod my IBM Model M 52G9658 with the solenoid mod. Would like to seek advice which parts to purchase and if there is a step by step guide for me to perform the mod. I am fairly non-technical and am hoping to seek your kind advice.
Thank you.
This is only possible for SSK Model M keyboards, not your full size Model M that you mentioned, as the controller is limited to 16 columns. Several folks have done this before https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=69394.msg1727558#msg1727558
Per orihalcon, “Works for Model M’s too, though only SSKs and Wheelwriters have 16×8 matrixes. You’ll still only get 2KRO because of the limitations of the membrane, but also handy if you want to add a solenoid”
However if you pick up a SSK I would say you need to learn how to do this or pay someone to do it (I don’t offer this service).
You would have to buy the xwhatsit controller, solenoid driver board, and solenoid. I can’t guarantee everything will fit in an SSK keyboard.
